I have always been fascinated by street musicians. During my travels in the US and in other countries, I see many street musicians. Some of the best that I have seen are in NY City. I always wonder what struggles each of them is going through and what are their stories. Whatever troubles they may be in or struggles they are going through, they generally seem to have a good time when they are playing music.
I found this very interesting organization, Playing for Change Foundation, who started out by recording music by street musicians across the globe. This group traveled the world and captured the street music in many countries and combined the music from each individual performer / group to produce some really good music. They now have a broader mission supporting music education and helping raise funds to support music education in regions of extreme poverty and poor resources.
